Fire Evacuation + a wellness retreat for the new year

Hi friends!

My goodness, what a whirlwind of a month it has been.

For those of you who don’t follow me on Instagram, you may have missed the evacuation adventures I’ve been posting over the past few weeks. When the Thomas Fire began here in California, our home wasn’t in any immediate danger. The fact the fire spread as far as it did is still shocking, but thankfully it is finally 92% contained!

We woke up on Thursday, December 7th to abnormally smokey skies due to the fire burning a few cities south of us. We’ve been through a lot of fires here in Santa Barbara – but this level of smoke and ash was different than anything we had experienced. It looked like a movie. We decided on a whim to book an AirBnB a few hours north to escape the smoke for a few days. When we left, we thought we’d return home two days later, but much to our surprise the fire continued to grow and the air quality in Santa Barbara went from unhealthy to hazardous in a matter of days.

Things got so bad that we remained voluntarily evacuated for the next 12 days. 12 days with 2 little kids and just a few pairs of clothes! That’s it! It was quite the adventure. We visited friends, stayed with family, rented AirBnB’s and on our last night, were taken in by the wonderful staff at the Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village.

I’ve always wanted to partner in this particular hotel with because it’s home to the California Health & Longevity Institute.

In all honesty, I first heard of the California Health & Longevity Institute in and episode of Giuliana and Bill (I used to love that show!) and I’ve been intrigued ever since.

While I was a guest at the Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village I learned about their Signature Retreat and I am seriously considering attending in the new year. It sounds like the perfect opportunity to sneak away for some alone time, focus on wellness and set the stage for a healthy 2018.

Here’s a little overview of the Signature Retreat experience:

  • 3 nights at the Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village
  • Pre-program nutrition and fitness consultations
  • Body composition analysis
  • Metabolism assessment
  • All organic plant-based meals and snacks provided by the Wellness Kitchen and customized to your metabolism
  • 10 workshops by Registered Dietitians, Exercise Physiologists, and Eating Psychotherapists
  • 3 morning meditations
  • 2 guided hikes
  • 2 yoga classes
  • 2 HIIT workouts led by Exercise Physiologist
  • 3 culinary demonstrations
  • Wellness Kitchen cookbook
  • 25% off spa + wellness services
  • Unlimited access to group classes

Doesn’t that sound AMAZING??

What I love most is that unlike many “wellness” retreats, this is focused on safe, long-term wellness strategies. This isn’t about quick-fix cleanses, excessive exercise or extreme weight loss. The Signature Retreat is designed to reset your lifestyle for sustainable health.

And if it’s not in the cards for you, don’t stress. I’ll be providing plenty of resources for you here on TBL to help you live a healthy, whole, balanced life in 2018!

Cheers to a new year and a fresh start, beauties!
